As part of the activities of the Terra Brasilis Institute related to public policies and the conservation of the species, between the days of 13th to 17th of April, the Brazilian Merganser Program team participated in two events organized by the National Bird Research and Conservation Center - CEMAVE/ICMBio: the second meeting about the Brazilian Merganser’s Captivity Program and the annual monitoring Workshop of the Brazilian Merganser’s National Action Plan (PAN). Present at the events were the coordinator Lívia Lins and the Biologist Flávia Ribeiro, of the Terra Brasilis Institute, besides researchers from other regions involved in the conservation of the Brazilian Merganser.

The meeting about the Brazilian Merganser’s Captivity Program was held in Brasilia, on April 13th. According to the coordinator of the Pato Aqui, Água Acolá Project, Lívia Lins, one of the main objectives of the meeting was the discussions about the Captivity Program’s protocols, which seeks the species' recovery. “The importance of investing efforts in the consolidation of the captivity program was reaffirmed as an important tool for the conservation of the Brazilian Merganser”, commented Lívia.

During the workshop adjustments were made on the PAN’s actions, as well as an analysis of its monitoring targets and indicators.

The National Action Plans for the Conservation of Species Threatened with Extinction are management tools wich, among other objectives, aim to facilitate is the exchange of experiences between the actors involved, enhancing conservation efforts aimed at threatened species.
